A publishing checklist creates a consistent minimum standard. It should catch technical omissions and weak content without turning every article into the same formula.

Use the checklist as a gate, then apply judgment to the subject and audience.

Editorial and on-page review

Confirm that the page answers one primary intent and that its title accurately represents the content. Check facts, claims, examples and dates. Remove filler that exists only to increase length.

Write a concise meta description for the likely searcher, use descriptive headings and give informative images useful alt text. Decorative images should have an empty alt attribute so screen readers can skip them.

  • Clear intent and non-duplicative purpose
  • Verified facts and honest limitations
  • Descriptive title, headings and snippet
  • Useful image alt text without keyword stuffing

Technical and measurement review

Verify the canonical URL, crawl directives, internal links and structured data. Schema must describe content that is visible on the page and should use the most specific accurate type.

Define how success will be measured after publication. For organic Google performance, connect the verified property and record the page URL so impressions and clicks can be matched later.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about content quality checklist

Does every image need descriptive alt text?

Informative images do. Purely decorative images should use alt="" so assistive technology can ignore them. Keyword-stuffed alt text is not helpful.

Should every article include FAQ schema?

Only when the page visibly contains genuine questions and answers. FAQ rich results are restricted for most commercial sites, but accurate schema can still describe the content.

How long should an SEO article be?

Long enough to answer the intent completely and no longer. There is no universal word count that guarantees performance.
