Publishing a URL does not guarantee that Google will index it. Search engines first need to discover the page, access it, interpret its canonical signals and decide that it adds enough value to retain.

Use this checklist before blaming a single tool or repeatedly requesting indexation.

Verify technical eligibility

The page should return a successful status, allow crawling, avoid a noindex directive and identify the intended canonical URL. The canonical should resolve and should not contradict the sitemap or internal links.

Add at least one relevant crawlable link from an existing hub or related page. Include indexable public URLs in the XML sitemap with stable absolute URLs.

  • HTTP 200 response
  • No unintended robots or noindex block
  • Self-referencing or intentional canonical
  • Internal links and sitemap inclusion

Evaluate whether the page is worth indexing

A technically perfect page can remain unindexed if it duplicates another URL or offers little unique value. Compare the page's intent, examples, data and answers with existing content on the site.

After material updates, request inspection when useful and then monitor coverage and impressions. Repeated submission cannot compensate for a weak or redundant page.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about indexation checklist

How long does Google indexation take?

It can range from hours to weeks, and indexation is not guaranteed. Site quality, crawl demand, internal links and page value all influence timing.

Should every page be in the sitemap?

Include canonical public pages you want indexed. Exclude private, duplicate, redirected or intentionally noindexed URLs.

Does IndexNow submit pages to Google?

IndexNow is supported by participating search engines, not Google Search. Google discovery should rely on crawlable links, sitemaps and Search Console tools.
